The Causes Of Organizational Behavior Conflict
Organizational behavior conflict can occur due to a change in the organization. Changed organizational expectations can be signaled by changes in personnel and structure, which can put many people in the organization into a position of conflict their established self concepts. Conflict can never be avoided, it should always be managed. In fact, it should be taken as a preliminary but necessary step to bring about an effective change in behavior. This indicates that the provision of a clear cut definition of the issues in the conflict is a necessary step to resolve the conflict. By making their new expectations in a clear cut manner, an organizations management can highlight this personal conflict.
Conflict can arise in an organization due to any of the following reasons:
Incompatibility between actual or desired outcomes, a perceived disagreement, or incompatible attitudes, motive, values, expectations or activities give way to tension. This tension then develops into a conflict. Conflict is often represented by scarcity, blockage, and opposition. Scarcity in resources can lead to conflict as every department within an organization wants to secure scarce resources for itself. These resources are the means that it needs for its survival. Every administration department performs for its personal interest. Therefore, to secure these limited resources, a department may block the access of another department to them. This act adds to the conflict level as well. A conflict in organizational behavior may also arise due to the opposition of one party to the action or proposal of another party. Conflict commonly involves some interference by a party in the pursuit of its objectives by another party. One of the principal causes of conflict is communications failure. Such a failure may arise due to semantic difficulties, misunderstandings, or noise. Semantic difficulties refer to the difference of opinion that one person has over what another has said. This can be further elaborated by saying that the same words do not mean the same things to any two individuals who hear or use them. Misunderstandings may occur due to this, which may result in a conflict. Noise can be referred to as disturbance in the background. It can also be referred to as some form of distorted signal. Behavior conflict in an organization can be caused due to group interdependence, task specialization, reward systems, authority relationships, and group or organizational size in an organizational structure. It can also be caused by personal variables such as personality types and value systems. The important aspect to note is proper resolution of organizational behavior conflict. An effective, balanced, and mature leadership together with an alert management play an important role to resolve such conflicts. |
